5 Paranormal Authors You Should Be Reading
I think it goes without saying that the paranormal genre is classified as Fiction or have you met any Witches, Angels, Faes, Fades, Vampires, or even Werewolves?
Though many book lovers may say that Fiction is born out of truth and reality, I am yet to find paranormal creatures on this planet.
I love Paranormal books because they are an escape from reality and certainly not because those creatures are usually gorgeous and the men are just yummy and certainly not because they are always rich.
Anyways here are 5 of my favorite paranormal authors; some of these women have written novels that have been adapted for screens while I wish the others would be adapted as soon as possible.
Nalini Singh
This woman right here is one of those authors I go to bed wishing I could have the chance to meet one day. I want to know what her thought process is like; for her to be able to write over 15 books in a single series amongst other series and short novels and every single one is a masterpiece. Wow, simply wow.
BTW, I just learned that she released a new volume in the Archangel series in October 2022, I can’t wait till I have it, I was so excited getting that news this morning.
Ok, so let me tell you a little about the Archangel series. Before we do that, please note that these archangels aren’t like the ones from the Bible. These ones lead normal lives though they rule over earthly regions but they don’t report to God.
Nalini will show you archangels falling in love, turning evil, making bad decisions, and even dying but their beauty is something you won’t get over in a hurry. She will also show you creatures like Chimeras, Vampires, and even Vipers.
You will be exposed to a world where angels are traumatized, depressed, and acting out like recalcitrant children. You will fall in love with them, cry, be depressed with them, and root all the way for them.
By the way, those angels, archangels, and other creatures in Nalini’s alternate world are drop-dead gorgeous. I still can’t get over Illium’s beauty, Aodhan’s sparkles, or even Naasir’s skin.
I love that Nalini takes us on a trip around the world introducing us to the archangels who rule over the region.
I also love that each archangel has a defining quality; Neha with her Indian customs, beautiful Michaela with her love for power and men, Titus with the booming voice, Elijah with his love for his consort, Raphael with his love for Elena, Calianne with her motherly love and so many others.
Jeaniene Frost
If you love reading paranormal books, chances are you also love paranormal movies. Jeanine will introduce you to a world where Dracula and Mencheres, an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh exist as ancient vampires and somehow the heroine, Cat gets tangled in their world.
Jeanine defies the theory that Vampires cannot possess magic as we see them flying, controlling fires, telling the future, and even controlling ghosts and ghouls.
Yoop, this book goes further than just your regular vampire story, it travels down to Louisiana, New Orleans, and exposes dark and ancient secrets about the town.
This book truly does have everything and yes, they will fight for their lives and Cat’s and yes, they fight dirty and bloody.
Deborah Harkness
You might have seen these on your screens but didn’t know it was adapted from Deborah Harkness’ all souls trilogy.
Deborah Harkness ties together everything you think you have read or watched about Vampires, Witches, and Daemons and ties it with the Salem witch trials, Charles Darwin, and Elias Ashmole’s research. She also ties it to the philosophers stone, the black death, Greek mythology, the book of Genesis, the origin of species, the knights of the Templar, the order of saint Lazarus, the siege of Carthage and so many events through real history.
Deborah had me wondering if I knew history at all. You get to see alternate history being made. Deborah also defies the theory that creatures hate each other and that Vampires cannot procreate.
She details how all creatures came from one source and how they were all allies once. It also didn’t help that at the beginning of each chapter I could imagine hearing Matthew Goode’s sexy voice saying;
“Once the world was full of wonders but it belongs to humans now; we creatures have all but disappeared…”
L.J Smith
You have probably seen one of these faces on your TV screen or social media pages before but you probably didn’t know that it was adapted from a series written by L.J Smith.
So I found the movie first, watched a few episodes, and saw a subtext at the beginning of an episode that said it was from a book, I got on the internet found the author and the books, and I was hooked from the first book.
This series gave life to the movie adaptation; the Vampire Diaries which in turn led to the Originals and now to Legacies each series was successful on our screens.
It takes a great writer to do that and I am not just patronizing. Many books have been adapted for movies and we have seen them fail woefully but L.J Smith’s works have been excellent even on screens.
I look forward to reading more of her works.
Maggie Shayne
Maggie Shayne’s first book that I read was ‘Twilight Hunger’ which I soon discovered wasn’t the first book in the ‘Wings in the Night’ series. I went ahead to read other books in the series but didn’t quite like that I read Dante’s story before I read that of his predecessors.
I love the fact that Maggie introduced Vampire hunters in a way that made them look like they were a secret branch of the regular police force.
I like how the vampires didn’t always win and neither did the DPI win all the time too.
I also loved how she made some people compatible with the vampires and regular humans weak and not easily turned into a vampire.
She explains it like a birth defect except that it meant a vampire couldn’t easily kill you or stay away from you and that it was known at birth whether you were one of the chosen or not.
In conclusion, I think we can say these are some of my favorite books and authors and yes, I would watch them in Cinemas if they ever got adapted into movies.
All the books listed come with that extreme beauty that creatures have, that sex appeal, wealth, bloody fights, steamy sex, and risky lives.
Did you enjoy this?
Don’t forget to applaud, share and comment.
I would love to hear from you.
