Yeah, I know you already know that The lord of the rings was adapted from a novel series by J.R.R Tolkien and that Game of Thrones was adapted to screen from a novel series by George. R.R Martin but I would be telling you about some movies you have probably seen this year but never knew they were adapted from books.

Bullet Train

This movie featured some Hollywood hotties including America’s sweetheart, Brad Pitt. Bullet Train is an action comedy movie that is almost entirely shot on a fast-moving train a.k.a ‘bullet train’ where 5 assassins meet and discover that their mission isn’t as unique as they thought.

They find the ties that connect or bind them while they also battle for survival. What should have been a simple mission or a train ride for each of them soon becomes a collision course and the race for survival of the fittest soon begin.

If you loved Brad Pitt in ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ you would love him in Bullet Train. There’s a lot of cursing, colorful language, and humor. The book from which it is adapted is titled ‘Bullet Train’ by Kotaro Isaka.

Persuasion

You probably remember Henry Golding from ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ and Dakota Johnson from ’50 shades of Grey’, They both star in this movie based on a Jane Austen novel with the same title.

The movie is about a debutante who meets a man she rejected eight years after her family and friends convinced her he was of no good because of his low societal status.

He reappears as a viable suitor who now has class, money, and social standing, and their love is rekindled. As with all period movies, there’s a bit of drama, dry humor, jealousy, and unnecessary shyness.

The School for Good And Evil

The school for good and evil is a fantasy fairytale movie borne out of a 7 book novel series by Soman Chainani. This is a story of two best friends who are swept away by a magical force and find themselves in an enchanted place with two schools; good and evil.

Sophie; the one who believes in magical worlds finds herself in the school for evil while Agatha, fondly called a witch by the townspeople finds herself at the school for good.

They argue their case and soon find themselves amid an eon-long war between brothers. Emotions are everywhere in this fairytale movie with all the villains and princesses of every fairytale story you can think of.

The movie also stars Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Kit Young, Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, and Lawrence Fishburne

Blonde

Adapted from a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde is a fictionalized account inspired by the life of the iconic Marilyn Monroe. With an emphasis on fiction, the movie tries to take a deep look into the childhood, rise to fame, and epic demise of the iconic star.

The adult, Norma Jeane is played by the beautiful Ana De Armas. The movie also features famous stars like George Sanders, Sara Paxton, and Ethan Cohn.

Luckiest Girl Alive

This Netflix movie was adapted from Jessica Knoll’s debut novel with the same title. It tells the story of a New York writer who has worked hard to reinvent herself after a series of horrifying incidents that happened in her teenage years.

While it is yet unknown whether the story is fictional or not, the movie takes us back in time as we relive the incidents with TifAni who is played by Mila Kunis.

We see through her eyes; the actual events, how the story was distorted, how she was blamed, and how she also felt betrayed by her mother and friends.

The movie also reminds victims of similar abuse, and the importance of speaking out to avoid the actual events being distorted, thus making the victim, the villain

We also see the trauma the events caused her and her coping mechanism turns out to be her reinvention. She returns to the scene of the crime eventually and faces her surviving assailant who distorted the facts and made a book out of it.

She faces the past and tells her story and that for me is a win.

The weirdest part is that I saw all of these movies before I found out they were books and now as the bookworm that I am, I have to read the books.
