Chocolate Chip Cookies: An Amateur Baker’s Guide
For the longest time ever, I have loved cookies and lately, I developed an interest in making them myself and whew, they turned out horrible despite the Youtube videos I watched and the numerous recipes I followed till I stumbled upon a Youtube video that focused on what I could have been doing and the next time I made cookies, they turned out with great shape and taste.
As it is my habit, once I find a recipe that works, I am here sharing it with you guys so here we go again; it’s a chocolate chip cookie this time. Here’s a step-by-step video by me: https://youtu.be/k09Y0CewYv4
You will need
1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter (softened)
1/2 Cup White and Brown Sugar (1/2 cup each but if you don’t have brown, use 3/4 cup of white sugar)
1 Egg
1 1/4 Cups of Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 Tsp Salt (you can skip this if you are using salted butter)
1 Cup of Chocolate Chips
1 Cup of Milk Chips
You will also need
A Mixing Bowl
A Spatula
A Whisk
Measuring Spoons and Cups
A Sieve
Oven tray
Preheat your oven to 170 degrees Celsius or 340 degrees Fahrenheit. This cookie batter will make between 12 to 18 cookies depending on size.
Step 1: Pour your softened butter into a mixing bowl, add your measured sugar, and mix. The reason for the softened butter is so that the sugar can melt and for good texture.
Step 2: Add in your egg and whisk. If you want, you could add a little vanilla extract.
Step 3: Pour into the mixture your sieved all-purpose flour, remember to mix quickly but not for too long to avoid overmixing. Add your baking soda and carefully measured salt. Skip the salt if your butter is salted. I usually taste a little of my butter to know if it’s salted; if it tastes like it’s ready to go on bread, it’s most likely salted.
Step 4: Fold in your Chocolate chips and milk chips, and it should start looking like this;
Step 5: Use a tablespoon to scoop out some, put it in your hand, and roll it into a ball then lay it on the already lined oven tray, repeat till the entire batter is gone then press some more chips into the ball.
Step 6: Preheat your oven and put in your cookie batter, bake for 14–15 minutes, bring them out and leave on a cooling rack for a few more minutes. If it’s a little soft at the center, don’t worry, it will harden a little while cooking.
And there you go, your crunchy chocolate chip cookie is ready!
Will you be trying this recipe?
I would like to know how it goes.
Till next time, au revoir.
